 Hotel Stairs by Bill Foy

August 2019 - Hotel Stairs

About the Image(s)

This image was made at the Hotel Cram in Barcelona, Spain last fall with my phone camera. I was attracted to the idea of making an image by the lines and angles in the scene. I don't think I did anything except a slight bit of straightening.

I love photos with geometric designs like this. I wouldn't change anything. I like it just as it is. It is nice in black and white also.   Posted: 08/07/2019 15:48:05

Hi! Visiting from another group... I love this image! It stopped me in my tracks as I was moving along the groups. I also love geometry, lines and angles in photos. Must have been a huge staircase to fit this much in your frame. Nice job.   Posted: 08/08/2019 15:54:11

Thanks, Lisa. I don't remember how many floors are in the hotel, but this image was made standing just off the lobby.   Posted: 08/23/2019 10:01:03

A great shot! I love the simplicity of it and the colors are nice too. It would be a great monochrome image too. I love stairways and this one is special. I would have to play with it in RollWorld on my iPad. I have fun with that app especially with stairways and fences. The lines, angles and shadows all contribute to a great image.   Posted: 08/13/2019 12:55:27

Thanks, Judy. Never hear of RollWorld? I use, primarily, Snapseed on my Samsung S9 - occasionally Polarr. I've already decided on it's going to appear in Group 74 at some point.   Posted: 08/23/2019 21:27:37

I always wish I could "see" these images myself. Alas, I am without the eye. Enough about me. Beautiful lines, sharp, excellent tones and color. Perfect. Works for me in B&W too.   Posted: 08/19/2019 15:25:37

Excellent shot Bill. Love the patterns. We have a member of our club I go shooting with regularly. He gets great shots like this. We can stand in the same place. When he puts his stuff up I'll look and ask "where did you get that".
Great eye.

Thanks, Jim. I think there are things that each of us sees differently than others - just look at the posts the last few years from this group. There's a guy in our club is really good with cars, something I've never been able to get.

Replying to your "Second thought", I agree that the B&W is good (I'm going to submit it to Group 74 at some point), I, too, think the way the color plays in the image is better than the B&W version.   Posted: 08/23/2019 21:33:54

Second thought. While I like the B&W looking again at the color version the shades and light is above all.
