About the Image(s)

Title: The Talking Tree

Camera Information: Shot 1-22-21, Speed 1/60th second, F-8, ISO 5600 (ISO auto), Matrix Metering, handheld.

Processing: In CR, recovery and noise reduction. In PS: Background darkened and blurred, partial removal of one twig, selected the tree, sent to the topaz lab, micro-contrast selection used, resized, slightly sharpened and .02 border added.

Information: I was first to arrive (two other photographers joined me) and while waiting, walked past this tree. Now, I had been at this spot two other times and never saw this tree. The light must have been just right for bringing out the colors and uniqueness. We had hoped to catch some fog around the river, but it had just about gone when I took this image.

Well done, Wanda..just a question..how tall is that tree? And are the openings big enough for a person to get into it? Looks like a fun place to hang out in! I like the photo, as well, the green moss! That tree has character! Wanda Great job! Nice find!   Posted: 02/14/2021 19:44:06

LOL, no Shelia, the holes are not large enough for anyone other than a tiny person to enter.........what a compelling thought tho! The holes are probably about a foot in height.   Posted: 02/15/2021 03:25:11

I also like photographing trees, bark and oddities about them. On my monitor, the image seems a little washed out. I didn't really see any difference between the final and the original. While the subject is really the holes, I guess, I'd kind of like to see a little more saturation in the moss and some of the little leaves around it. Hope it's okay to post my version. It's just a quick attempt. I dropped the exposure some and burned the background. Opened up the shadows to show the inside of the bottom hole.   Posted: 02/15/2021 17:08:35

An interesting picture. If you are into creative type of photography, you could insert a person and/or animal or something else like flowers into the openings. I also agree with Marti Buckely that a slightly darker version would have more impact.   Posted: 02/18/2021 11:30:39

Trees you could spent a lot of time shooting them, so many colors and textures. I really like this great color and texture. Your work in CR was well done.   Posted: 02/18/2021 19:05:49
