About the Image(s)

Everything has a silver lining, and being able to go to Brooks Falls in this difficult year was my silver lining. I had never wanted to go to Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park, because it is so regulated. In normal times, you cannot have a tripod on the bridge in June and July. Stayings at Brooks Camp is normally through a lottery system. My son lives in Alaska, so I was going to visit in September. I started researching bear viewing out of Anchorage. I found this trip to Brooks Falls. I stayed two nights at Brooks Camp and photographed for two days. It was magical. They had only reopened in August. There were only a few people. My friend and I were often the only people on the platform at Brooks Falls.

At this time of year, the bears are getting ready for hibernation. They are fat and lethargic. In early summer, I understand there are many bears at the falls. They would slowly come and go during the day.

It was shot at 1/30, f11 and 95mm. I took several images and combined them with layers and masking.

Wow, you did well..........and at such a slow speed! Nice job of combining the elements from different pictures, and the bear the closest is the largest! Sounds like you were there at a good time when it wasn't crowded! Great picture!
