The Farmer by Kathy Brand

June 2020 - The Farmer

About the Image(s)

This is a portrait of the farmer at the Farmers’ Market that I get my veggies from. Exposure was adjusted in LR including making the veggies more noticiable. Since I will be going back to his market more this summer, I would like your comments on how to make his pose or anything else in the picture more attractive.

Your farmer looks great, especially his shirt, and his fabulous vegetables. When shooting workers, crafters, artists, it's nice to include artifacts of their work and place them in action with them. You might shoot this gentleman as he is bagging the first item, so the rest are still in view on the scale, and his eyes are directed to his active hands. Consider pulling back a bit and including his (probable) collection of piles of fresh produce for sale--the colors are great.   Posted: 06/06/2020 17:21:57

Your image is an excellent posed portrait. I would try to get him in an unposed moment or two while he is organizing his products, dealing with a customer, etc. I think that might provide the oomph you are looking for.   Posted: 06/12/2020 16:16:19

I agree. Less posed would make a better image. Slightly looking down at the vegetables??? The colors are beautiful.   Posted: 06/14/2020 14:12:32

Great color. I have to agree a little more interaction with the veggies would keep my interest. He looks a little stiff.
I hope the veggies were as good as they look.   Posted: 06/17/2020 08:58:44

Ah, quietly proud, and what nice looking vegetables! Most of all I really like his expression. I might have a tendency to replace the background with something less eye-catching, but a great shot.   Posted: 06/23/2020 15:45:13
