Abstract Lines and Shapes by Kathy Brand

January 2020 - Abstract Lines and Shapes

About the Image(s)

The Wisconsin Area Camera Club Association (WACCO) sponsored a bus trip to Chicago in September. We went up 5 or 6 stories in a parking garage to take pictures of abstract train tracks below. I turned around and saw this empty parking area (it was a Saturday) and I liked the abstract format and took a picture of it. In LR, I used Auto Settings and then further adjusted the exposure and straightened out the perspective. Tech details: 1/200, f/10, ISO 320.

Smart shot, to look the other direction. I love the simplicity of this shot and all of the lines and boxes. Nice post-processing too, and not over-cooked (which I have a tendency to do). I tried cropping the image to just below the uppermost horizontal line and found that it brought the other set of horizontal lines about to the upper third of the image, which removed the pull toward the top of the image. I like the muted colors and minimalistic presentation. Who would have thought to find this abstract in a parking garage!! You have given me some ideas for my own shooting!   Posted: 01/04/2020 16:09:52

Wanda, I tried cropping and I like what it did. What do you think.   Posted: 01/11/2020 18:46:05

You removed that top line, which I think is an improvement.   Posted: 01/12/2020 06:09:37

Hi Kathy-

This is an interesting shot of lines and patterns with sharpness in the foreground and background. I would prefer this one to be monochrome.   Posted: 01/12/2020 20:43:18

Hi Kathy. I agree that this would photo would do well as a BW.

The simplicity makes the image.   Posted: 01/20/2020 17:00:23
