Wooden Bridge by Jan van Leijenhorst

April 2021 - Wooden Bridge

About the Image(s)

This is the bridge in the Chicago Botanic Garden leading to the Japanese garden there.
I converted the original image to monochrome as there is not much color in the scene this time of year.

I like your framing of the bridge and the way it leads the eye across the image. There may not have been a lot of colour in the scene but I feel that there was good tonal range and this could have been enhanced in mono by increasing the contrast. I would also have considered the use of selective toning having the bridge timbers in sepia and the rest a normal mono.   Posted: 04/10/2021 05:47:42

Thank you Jon, that is a very good suggestion. I'll work on that.   Posted: 04/10/2021 09:28:20

Love this bridge. It looks like there might have been some evergreen trees. Did they add a bit of green color? Wonder what selective color of green might do to this photo. Or wonder what a bleached bypass would do on top of the sienna?
Like the contrast of lines between curves and straight. It's a capture of a path I'd love to explore.

I would be interested in seeing the original. I wonder if a monochrome black and white would bring out more of the grain of the bridge. I am not fond of the sepia tone, it just doesn't accomplish the "antique" look for this shot.   Posted: 04/12/2021 17:01:04
