Male Swan being Aggressive by Jon Allanson

April 2021 - Male Swan being Aggressive

About the Image(s)

Taken in a local nature reserve based on a number of ponds originally constructed in the late 18th century to supply water to a now demolished textile printing works. The pair of swans took up residence early last year and after nest building terrorised much of the original waterfowl around the ponds. In this image the swan is chasing off a Canada goose that got about 10 yards from him. Taken on my Fuji XT2 with 100-400 mm lens at 1/1250 sec, f8, ISO 400 and with only very basic a adjustments made in post processing.

Oh, my gosh! Look at those water droplets caught mid air. Fast shutter speed also capturing swan action.
The light in the upper right hand corner and along the top is distracting to me. I'd take that out but that's just me.
Great action capture.   Posted: 04/11/2021 10:26:05

This is about as perfect as it can be: the swan tack sharp and the water below him slightly out of focus to suggest movement. Beautiful.   Posted: 04/12/2021 14:08:57

Wonderful action shot, with a nice reflection. I didn't know swans could terrorize other birds - now I know why when I see the Canadian geese in the fields they are separated. Great job on getting detail in the white feathers.   Posted: 04/12/2021 16:58:18
