About the Image(s)

Our New Normal focus groups' mission was to capture January Hygge moments, a Danish concept of quiet comfort, coziness and self care. "You can't buy happiness but you can buy cake."
So, I made this whipped cream covered strawberry cake. It was more of a challenge to cut without making a mess. I tried to correct much of it in post production using easyHDR, Paintshop, Luminar and PhotoPad editors.
Messy but de-li-cious. Easier to eat than photography.

Yummy. I think this image has a lot of potential, but appears too blown out on the left for me. I would go back and work with original 2 to get the effect you are looking for. I would try to bring out some of the detail in the cake's frosting and those delicious strawberries.   Posted: 02/06/2021 14:59:14

I like your idea, and the effect of the high key background, it gives a sense of place without being distracting. To me the main subject is the large cake with the slice cut out, it needs to be stronger really showing the texture of the cake and the strawberries.   Posted: 02/07/2021 02:42:31

Oh please, give me warning. I definitely am going off my diet with just seeing this!! Actually I have a friend the introduced me to Hygge, and I think it is a wonderful idea of rest and relaxation during the winter months.

Ok about the photography. I think the white vignette is too strong - try feathering it more or not using it. In a sense the white is making this "dreamy" but I'd lower the impact of the lines where the fog starts.   Posted: 02/09/2021 13:11:39

The image tells us about the sliced tasty cake. The processing directs us to the cut out slice. i think the processing is little over done, particularly on the left. The colour, texture and sharpness of the slice could be stronger as the main subject in contrast to the subdued background   Posted: 02/17/2021 06:01:51

Overall a nice image, I probably like the background the most. It is nice, soft and very subtle. I think if the cake had more texture and color, it would be more appetizing.   Posted: 02/19/2021 14:20:20

It looks delicious. The large white area on the right distorts the overall composition. I would go back to work with original #2 to get a more balanced image.   Posted: 02/19/2021 15:50:27
