About the Image(s)

Our photography New Normal focus group's mission was to capture October. Bonus points for October's 1st full moon, witches and/or levitations. I tried to get tree branch silhouettes against the full moon. That didn't work as the moon was blurry despite manual infinity focus. So, the alternative plan became to shoot the full moon, print poster size and then get a silhouette. I had to get the right flashlight behind the moon so that it would glow and outline the witch. I think it would have been easier to do this in photoshop. Theoretically, the witch was to be flying on her broom. However, the 18 inch doll (whose brand name I will not use) didn't astride a levitating broom. Alas, only two bonus points out of three were obtained.
Next month's mission is eight blessings, each one starting with the individual letters of November...or not.
For now, it's Witchy Woman.

Great idea. I wish you had been able to put the moon in without the seeing the border of the background. Maybe just cutting the moon out or blending the two backgrounds would be the solution.   Posted: 11/08/2020 20:16:49

Oh, dang...you are right...thought I'd done that but maybe not on the one I uploaded. Like I said in the into, it would have been sooooo much better to have used layers.   Posted: 11/09/2020 07:03:34

Grrr. I looked at this on my cell phone. It definitely did not correct the outline even though it did in my editing program. Now what's up with that?   Posted: 11/11/2020 08:48:46

I like your idea, and your club sets you some interesting challenges. You have already acknowledged the technical error surrounding the moon and its is relatively easy to correct.
I would have preferred the moon to be higher up in the frame, possibly achieved by having the witch at floor level rather than up on a table, so that otherwise you set up would have stayed the same.   Posted: 11/11/2020 08:44:11

Yes, I agree that a higher moon would be better. I should have thought about that. Learning so much with this stay at home photography. Very different than capturing a gorgeous landscape, culture of people or their flora and fauna.   Posted: 11/11/2020 08:53:42

It is wonderful that your club gives you these challenges! An interesting challenge and you have realized some of your answers after.. definitely like the idea of having the moon higher. Hopefully the next full moon, you will get a sharp one.   Posted: 11/23/2020 14:41:28

A very interesting concept. I would have liked to see just a little more detail in the witch. And as someone pointed out, having the moon a little higher might have given you a better composition.   Posted: 11/26/2020 15:15:44
