About the Image(s)

Our camera club competition them for February was shadows. I like that you only see his legs, but the shadow is his full image. I took it using my Sony A6300 in aperture priority. The image was taken at F5.6 at a focal distance of 163mm.

Yes, Just the legs and the full shadow make an interesting composition.Surprised (at that aperture) to still see some movement in the shoe and leg.
Perhaps a bit of contrast or other treatment just on the pavement and shadow would add some punch.   Posted: 03/13/2020 05:21:03

This is a good catch. It piques my curiosity that the shadow appears to have a man with a fedora type hat, and his fingers are unusual too, almost like a puppet. The middle left of the photo has a black shadow that is not part of the photo, so I would take that out to keep the eye from getting distracted. I am also wondering if this would be an interesting monochrome - or is it the contrast between the color of his pants and the shadow that makes it so interesting? Shadows live in a monochrome world.   Posted: 03/14/2020 19:11:48

Avery simple image and a good response to your competition challenge. By only showing the man's legs you have made the shadow the main feature of the image. Placing the shadow on the diagonal has strengthened it.   Posted: 03/15/2020 11:41:41

Shadows are so much fun. It's interesting knowing that your last month's comment on your club's topic was shadows to see what you did. Guess you live in an area where the sun is out and you could get a shadow! Lucky you!
That said, I'm never sure how much of the subject which is throwing the shadow should be included. Your photo does make the viewer ask questions and want more. Good capture.
I might clean up the other shadow at the center top of the photo. I like the color and found that a b&w conversion lacks punch.   Posted: 03/15/2020 11:54:26

Nice image. Well done and so simple. My only comment: wish the leg/shadow were a little more to the left giving more room in the walking direction.   Posted: 03/16/2020 10:18:36

The shadow is very cool! Looks like a slower shutter speed which gave it a little blur. I think the composition works real well with the diagonal.   Posted: 03/19/2020 16:09:30
