About the Image(s)

I attended a RPS workshop on Photo Stories at the seaside town of Llandudno in North Wales last month. As the tide receded the jetty for boat trips became exposed, so I made my way on to the pebbled beach and jetty to make a shot using the jetty as a strong lead in.

Taken on my Xpro2 with 18-55mm lens at 55mm, 1/400 sec, f8, ISO 400. In Lightroom the horizon was straightened, and auto processing applied before exporting to Photoshop. The sky was selected and darkened, then converted to mono with a B&W adjustment layer, a second layer was applied to the jetty and foreshore. Separate curves layers were applied to the sky and foreshore. An overall High Pass sharpening at 1.9 radius Soft Light was applied then another 1.9 radius Overlay applied to the foreshore and jetty. A final check levels layer was added and the histogram adjusted to reach the 255.

Oh, Jon. This is an awesome leading line photo. The black and white seem perfect for the textures captured and presents a moody fall on the water front. Nice job.   Posted: 10/20/2018 11:23:17

I think this is a really nice conversion to black and white and is more effective than the color image. Composition is very strong with the nice curve. However the subject matter is lacking a bit of interest.   Posted: 10/25/2018 22:21:37

What a lot of windmills. The processing has certainly brought these into play. The jetty is really different to the usual jetty photos. I love the way it disappears into the water.
I know the pole at the end was probably leaning, but it distracts me.   Posted: 10/26/2018 04:30:29

I love the leading line of the bridge. It makes your eye go right to the windmills which may have been ignored otherwise. I agree with Danny about the pole. I would have cloned that out. Good job!   Posted: 10/30/2018 18:22:39
