A Foggy Night by Tony Au Yeong

March 2023 - A Foggy Night

About the Image(s)

This was taken in the Hong Kong Island at night not long ago. The temperature was getting warm and it was very humid. There was fog and mist forming at a low level, precipitated by temperature inversion with a slow wind speed. This phenomenon usually happens in the month of March and April, but this time it was a bit early. I took the shot with a tripod at a hill top.

This is really unique.
I am thinking that perhaps you might consider cropping the right just enough to eliminate that bright building spot that is up agains the frame. And maybe even cloning out the next building spot just before that. And one other frame spot is on the bottom right, where I think darkening just a little so the corner is not so bright.   Posted: 03/01/2023 16:12:42

It is a surreal picture. Kudos for your planning! I'm not so sure about the screen, but it was there and it's really not so distracting (maybe you can darken it a little?). I agree with Bob that you could crop from the right to eliminate the bright building and the light close to it (or clone them). Except that, just compliments for an excellent shot.   Posted: 03/06/2023 17:50:28

A wonderful shot! I agree with the others above about the cropping from the right, also because it feels to me that there is a bit too much space on the right in compare to the left of the image. By a slight crop from the right, you probably will be able to balance the image better.   Posted: 03/07/2023 03:19:33

A magical cityscape with the buildings rising from the mist - it could come from a futuristic sci-fi story! I agree with the others about the crop. I think that the purple tower, the screen and the bright yellow neon light form a triangle that keeps the gaze going round the fine details in the image.   Posted: 03/08/2023 11:30:05

When we were in Hong Kong, the mist was so thick that we could not see the city from the top of the hill. So I love this composition, and the mood that you have been able to capture.
I agree that a crop from the right would balance the picture better.   Posted: 03/09/2023 10:20:53
