Melk Benedictine Abbey by Mervyn Hurwitz

September 2020 - Melk Benedictine Abbey

About the Image(s)

Taken on my recent Danube river cruise, the Abbey stands on a high point overlooking the river and the town of Melk, Austria. We weren't allowed to photograph inside the Abbey, but I particularly enjoyed this view with the reflection.

A standard postcard picture went to a much higher level thanks to the reflection. You got a perfectly symmetric picture. Interesting how the reflection is quite crisp, notwithstanding the flowing river. My only recommendation would be to open up the reflection a little more, so there is not so much contrast between the top and the bottom halves. You can also eliminate some of the branches in the water (bottom left).   Posted: 09/07/2020 19:20:02

Thank you for your suggestions. I agree that this looks better. Do you think it is an improvement?   Posted: 09/10/2020 09:44:38

In my opinion you have made a nice image of the Abbey with a lovely reflection from the water. I agree that brightening the reflection may improve the photo. Additonally, I would consider increasing the vibrance of the Abbey because it is the subject of interest.   Posted: 09/10/2020 05:58:23

I was recently reading about this place! You have a perfect mirror image, and your corrected version opens up things. The light on the abbey is much nicer. There are tiny things I'd remove: in water, stick in foreground; and, the tiniest spot in the reflection on right at frame's edge.   Posted: 09/12/2020 14:13:44
