A Bright Spot by Belinda Hudnall Keller

About the Image(s)

This is from my drift roses. They are low growing at about 12", and these lower shots seem to be getting harder! It's pretty straight forward, a single bloom chosen without too many flaws. I cropped the top to recompose a more squarish image, because I couldn't get any lower in the thorns! After resizing and sharpening, and further correcting, the center isn't nearly as clear as in the original.

Panasonic Lumix G1: Closeup, creative flower setting: f/5.4, 1/80, ISO100
Photo Editor: removed small leaf near top of bloom
Snapseed: cropped; healing tool used on one lower background leaf to reduce brightness; healing tool used on right petal to smooth flaws; Details, increased structure; Looks, portrait preset darkened overall background; Glamour Glow, slight glow added; vignette adjusted

To me this is a beautful image showing the pink rose and a small blossom at the left lower corner as a buddy. The color and luminance of the leaves work well with the rose and I like the blurring of upper part of the image.   Posted: 08/06/2020 09:53:18

Composition is spot on with nice balance between the rose and the bud in the lower left. The petals are sharp, and I like the way you have handled the greens so that they are not too bright.   Posted: 08/06/2020 12:07:07

Your treatment is great. Only suggestion would be to darken the one glossy leaf in the lower right.   Posted: 08/06/2020 21:39:44

Thanks! The small bright one in the background or large lower attached to flower?   Posted: 08/08/2020 11:22:19

Part of leaf attached. Is very minor really, but everything helps, as they say   Posted: 08/08/2020 12:39:48

I think this a wonderful photograph of a lovely flower. I might try enhancing the yellow in the center of the floer just a tad   Posted: 08/06/2020 22:03:09

A very delicate picture, where the attention goes immediately to the flower and its center. The out-of-focus background is a perfect complement to the bright and sharp rose. I find the bud on the bottom left a little distracting; cropping to eliminate it would produce a less interesting composition, so I would simply clone it. I'm also not convinced by the (empty) calyx to the left of the flower: if you don't want to eliminate it, you might darken it.   Posted: 08/08/2020 20:08:44
