Mammoth Hotspring by Albert Zabin

September 2019 - Mammoth Hotspring

About the Image(s)

Aa storm approached while we were on one of the more colorful areas of the hot spring. As the scene darkened the colors seemed to deepen. ,Nikon 800 with Tamron 15-30 zoom at something around 20mm processed with On1 I increased saturation to about 1 and vibrance to 7. Increased structure and sharpened to 100, reduced highlights to preserve detail in the white areas and darkened the surrounding background using the local brush.

Very powerful mix of colors and forms. It is interesting how the semi-circle of the hot springs is reproduced (inversely) by the clouds. This picture is about layers, and you got them all, including the sliver of white running above the mountains from the center to the right. It might be my computer, but I would brighten up a little the mountains, particularly the range on the left of the picture.   Posted: 09/08/2019 12:13:18

Lovely, and almost as if the clouds are being reflected. The sky is ominous, intense. I would try punching up the colors of the foreground a bit, and lighten the horizon at left near the mountains, as well as a little of sky in that area. An amazing piece of nature nicely captured.   Posted: 09/10/2019 16:54:05

Wonderfully done. I agree with Jose that possibly lightening (or opening shadows) the mountains might give a slight improvement.   Posted: 09/10/2019 16:55:44

Great color palette and sharpness throughout. The sky definitely adds drama to the scene and probably helped to enhance the colors in the foreground.   Posted: 09/11/2019 12:39:47

What I like about this picture is how the colors are layered in such a manner that they add to the depth of the picture and how they all point to a focus point. I would enjoy having this hanging on my wall.
