The Monastery, Meteora, Greece by Abe Chen

April 2021 - The Monastery, Meteora, Greece

About the Image(s)

I had the good fortune to visit and photograph in Greece in October, 2014, both on the mainland and on the islands. Greece is a treasure trove for photographers. This image was taken while visiting the Meteora region where many Greek Orthodox monasteries perched atop the slender rock formations. Camera settings: f/9, 1/25, ISO 200, -0.3EV with my Nikon D300 and Nikkor 17-50 mm f2.8 lens set at 55mm and on the tripod.
In post processing, LR and photoshop CS4 were used to edit the image.

A interesting image. Sharp, depth, colors are good. Interesting subject; wonder how they built it and how long it took to complete. The rock has good colors. Greece was always on my bucket list....   Posted: 04/16/2021 08:48:40

The composition and colors are spot on, and the lighting provides the mood one would expect of a monastery. The only change I would make is to clone out the car and truck on the road.   Posted: 04/20/2021 10:09:22

Thanks for your kind words and the suggestion.
I purposely left two cars in the picture for "scale" and also give a hint to spot 1) The road to reach the monastery(the blue car in the bottom left); 2) The supply pully cable on the top of rock(the truck in bottom right).   Posted: 04/20/2021 22:06:43

I definitely agree that the cars give a sense of scale that help the feeling of awe at the accomplishment of building such a structure. I like the sense of perspective the view from the road provides. I would have missed the supply pulley, but looking closer, I see the one line that doesn't match the lines in the rock.   Posted: 04/21/2021 10:37:24
