About the Image(s)

Taken during an Oct. 2020 trip to the Oregon Coast and the Redwoods of California. This was taken on the coast of Crescent City, CA. Taken with a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 100-400 lens (on tripod). Settings were ISO 100, 330mm, F/20 and 3.2 second exposure using bulb setting. Had to make many attempts to capture the light of the lighthouse. I don't remember exactly what was done during processing but some telephone lines were removed on the right side in PS and adjusted the hues to create the color combinations in the final image.

Darin Beautiful image with composition and colors. Like the layers. Could there be a little cropping on the top?   Posted: 02/11/2021 18:08:43

I really like your submitted image. It is impressive how you have captured the island and lighthouse in silhouette with the foreground in subtle light. I might have cropped a little of the top out maybe to the change of the blue. For me all of the sky behind takes my attention away from the main subject. It is interesting that if a view from a little different angle the rays of light seem to change. Great subject, great capture, just really nice overall!   Posted: 02/16/2021 18:06:19

It is a great feeling of atmosphere in this simple but interesting composition. Your colors complement each other very well. Love the contrast of silhouette against the orange sky. For me, I would crop down from the top, so the lighthouse at the bottom of the image roughly corresponds with the position of the bottom horizonal gridline(the rule of thirds) to emphasize the center of interest in the scene. See thumbnail.   Posted: 02/16/2021 22:58:22

I like the feeling of isolation this gives, while at the same time conveying the feeling of safety that a lighthouse give the mariner. I like the placement of the horizon, and I think it's okay to crop down a bit. I would like the transition zone between the sunset and the evening sky to be without the green band.   Posted: 02/19/2021 18:43:15

For me this is all about the colors which are beautiful. Composition is really good with the lighthouse more of an anchor emphasizing the colors. I agree with Audrey that the green band looks a little odd. I think there is a second image here, the lighthouse and island. To change the focus to the them I cropped off the top. The result is below.   Posted: 02/23/2021 14:11:30
