November 2020 - Astoria Moving Clouds

About the Image(s)

Taken in Astoria Oregon in Sept 2020, was going for the cloud motion so lowered the ISO to 50 and used f/22 for the f-stop. Canon 5D Mark IV with 17-40mm lens at 40mm, ISO50, F22, 30 sec. on tripod. Processed in LR using basic adjustments.

I really like this month's image. I enjoy the way the bridge goes from the right of the image and dissolves on the left edge. The clouds are also spectacular. I get the feeling of being swept away.   Posted: 11/12/2020 09:51:56

An interesting photo. You have a wonderful dramatic angle that makes the bridge look even higher than it actually is. I like the composition with diagonal line of the bridge that goes from the upper right of the frame and vanishes on the lower left corner giving depth of field to the image. To me the color looks a bit underdone, perhaps consider lifting the overall saturation a bit. It seems that the bridge dominates in the image so I would add "Bridge" to the title.   Posted: 11/19/2020 15:02:37

This is a moody shot, just what one envisions of the rainy northwest. The colors make the mood and the bridge is a great foreground element. As noted by Bill and Abe the bridge is the dominant feature and the sky is secondary, while your title has the sky as primary. I took it into Lightroom and cropped the bottom some to see if that focuses more attention on the sky. I also corrected the horizon line. The result is below. I also liked the frame around the image, it adds to the mood.   Posted: 11/23/2020 11:41:46

I definitely agree with Eric's crop. I kept trying to figure out what the objects in the water were, and this way the focus is clearly on the bridge and the sky. I think the fact that the bridge nearly disappears into the distance helps to put the focus on the sky and clouds. And I really like the colors.   Posted: 11/23/2020 20:32:01
