Red Peony by Audrey Waitkus

November 2020 - Red Peony

About the Image(s)

Taken with my iPhone in the spring. In Photoshop I cropped, adjusted tonality slightly, cloned out another partial peony and some other intruding foliage, cloned in some leaves to fill an empty space at the top, and saved for the web

Beautiful strong colors in the flower. Sharpness along with the lighting and shadows gives good depth of field. this would look good on a greeting card.   Posted: 11/11/2020 09:49:09

Strong image, striking bright as color, light and full of life. The striking color created the impact. lovely! I also like the square crop with the flower centered.   Posted: 11/18/2020 09:49:58

Great composition and color. I also like the square crop. The bright colors really attract the eye. I would try a vignette to darken the bright color along the edges.   Posted: 11/23/2020 10:42:51

I think I don't use a vignette often enough, and I can really see where it would improve this photo. It would soften the bright edges of the frame where it feels like I'm "falling off a cliff," as well as bridging the sharp red/green contrast, and put the focus right where it should be on the flower. Had trouble resurrecting how to do a vignette in Photoshop and finally resorted to Lightroom. How do you do it? Here's what I came up with.   Posted: 11/24/2020 13:20:36
