Sunflower by Bob Laster

September 2020 - Sunflower

About the Image(s)

The sunflower was shot indoors using window light which I noticed back-lit the petals which seemed translucent. The flower was sitting on the kitchen table to up-lift spirits. The dark background was a shaded cardboard at an angle from the window light. The image was exposed using a tripod with 105mm Nikon macro lens set at f25, iso 100, s 15 seconds.

Here in Texas, we like sunflowers! This one is striking. The black B/G with the lighting catches the eye and causes one to take another look. Well done..   Posted: 09/14/2020 09:54:47

What a month! Yet another great image. To my eye it looks as if you have some back lighting that really gives this some punch. Also really like this without any boarder. To me it keeps the eye focused on the shot. Thanks!   Posted: 09/16/2020 14:21:42

I am really captivated by the way the light makes the petals seem to glow, and gives a strong directional sense to the leaves and stem. I also like the way the leaves lead through the flower to give a sense of motion to what might have been a static image. I also strongly agree that this image benefits from not having a border. Very nice image, and welcome to the group.   Posted: 09/16/2020 15:54:14

Lovely! The flower is in a great spot in the frame and very appealing image. I especially love the purity of the image: simple composition, a few basic colors and elemental shapes. Well done! Welcome to the group.   Posted: 09/18/2020 12:34:54

This is a great image, the colors are wonderful and the composition is strong. The glow from the back light is wonderful. Contrary to Bob, I would like a 1 pixel white stroke to ground it more. But that is personal preference.   Posted: 09/22/2020 09:15:22

I would say you had a successful day when shooting this image. The small amount of stem and the included green leaves really make this image stand out. Love the black background to help simplify. A .027 inch border in PS was added, what do you think? Welcome to the group!

Darin Thank you. The border color is very compatible. I have not used borders much but will consider. Thank you again.   Posted: 09/22/2020 21:05:06
