Lupine by Audrey Waitkus

September 2020 - Lupine

About the Image(s)

This lupine was in our garden in nearly full bloom. I photographed it with my Canon G11 on a bright sunny day after a rain. I was almost as impressed by the raindrops as I was by the intricate spike of the lupine. This was focus stacked from 3 images. The settings were focal length of 13.8mm, ISO 100, f/4.5 and 0.3 sec. In Photoshop I cropped, selectively sharpened, corrected the exposure and contrast, and added a vignette to highlight the flower and raindrops. The colors are just as the camera and I saw them.

Beautiful colors in this image. The raindrops are what catch my eye; they almost look like pearls on a string. Good composition.   Posted: 09/14/2020 09:19:18

Beautiful image! Congratulations on the capture   Posted: 09/14/2020 12:26:06

This is a nice image. Another image might be to focus in on the lupin to make that your main subject. The top of the lupine looks a little out of focus. The water drops on the leaves are very clear.   Posted: 09/16/2020 12:58:42

The lighting and color are both gorgeous, and the water drops make this an outstanding image. I think I would have cropped a little from the bottom to take out that lighter spot at the bottom right. I also agree with Bill's suggestion: pick one main subject. After all , just beautiful.   Posted: 09/18/2020 22:42:17

A nice photo with great color. I agree with Bill and Abe about the 2 subjects and the top of the flower being out of focus. I also think brightness is rather even which could be modified to help focus the eye on the subject. I imported it to LR where I made it a square image and cropped to focus the eye better on the subject. I also added a stronger vignette. Just a thought, see if you like it.   Posted: 09/21/2020 08:39:21

I definitely agree. It also looks like you found a way to sharpen everything and bring out the contrast and color. What's your secret? If I could figure out how to do that I'd enter it into the club contest!   Posted: 09/21/2020 08:49:57

Since I'm late to the show, there are no other new suggestions other than darkening the top of the lupine (since it may be slightly out of focus anyway). I agree to cropping as tight as possible on the 2 stars of the show in the upper right area of your image. Focus stacking certainly helps this image. Nice job.   Posted: 09/22/2020 14:17:35
