Grandpa with Grandson by Marla Henry

January 2020 - Grandpa with Grandson

About the Image(s)

I took this picture shortly before Christmas and my husband really liked how it came out (which I guess is the ultimate goal of any photo). The light is very bright behind them, so I just thought I would see what everyone thought and if there was anything I could do to fix that.

Great shot! Composition, sharpness and colors are good. You might try cropping off the brown wall at the top. Also clone out that dark spot (window next door?) next to Grandpa's ear. Lighting is good. A keepsake picture.   Posted: 01/13/2020 17:30:11

I agree, that spot needs to go.   Posted: 01/23/2020 09:04:52

It's a very sweet photo! You captured the moment of happiness.
To my eye, your image seems a bit light and might benefit from a Level or Curve Adjustments in the post process. A light-green rectangle shape in the RH side of the grandpa's ear is distracting. I suggest removing it.   Posted: 01/19/2020 01:20:24

A wonderful family portrait. I agree with the comments on removing the dark spot to the right of grandpa's ear. The background needs to be blurred and darkened. I imported into Lightroom where I sharpened, and added a vignette. The thumbnail is attached. I think some work on the faces of grandpa and grandson should be done to make them sharper and pop a little.   Posted: 01/20/2020 20:39:55

I took it Photoshop and applied a curves layer to reduce the overall brightness. Then I used a brush on the mask to brush in some light on their faces. Then I adjusted the overall brightness, and cloned out the green patch by the ear. I think that helps. It's such a wonderful memory photo.   Posted: 01/20/2020 22:07:55

I definitely will be looking at the sharpening and bring down the brightness.   Posted: 01/23/2020 09:08:16
