August 2019 - Car Grille with Reflection

Several years ago, I was at a local car show which included many cars with shiny chrome grilles and bumpers. I took many images of them, from close ups to full size. This is an image of a part of a grille and a bumper. Shot with Canon 70D at 1/160 sec @ f8.0 and ISO640, using a Canon 70 – 200mm lens at 81mm. In post processing I cropped to focus on just a part the grille and bumper, then made my usual adjustments in Lightroom. Final refinement in Photoshop to remove dust spots and age blemishes on the black metal. I added the original for information.

Nice image, it's really an interesting image. I like the geometric shapes, texture and lighting of your image.

Hello Eric, I keep on coming back to this image. I think the steel blue with the occasional bits of green very attractive and well done. My only criticism is that it looks a bit soft in the bottom left hand corner. Good shot! Posted: 08/28/2019 15:16:12
Hi Andrew, good to hear from you and thanks for the comment. It took me a while and lots of looking for this image to grow on me, and your comment pointed out something I had missed. The grill is the vertical and horizontal lines and the curved lines are reflections on the bumper which has several round parts. The bluish and greenish tints are reflections of the surrounding sky and grass which is what I had not noticed before. In the bottom left the bright chrome is a part of the bumper and all of the lines are reflections. Posted: 08/28/2019 16:47:58
I am so glad I waited to read your last comment about the grill lines and the reflection on the bumper. That makes it much more interesting as well as understandable to know which lines are which.
