Wendell Junk Yard by Darin Hlavinka

March 2019 - Wendell Junk Yard

About the Image(s)

How it was done: iso 800, 150mm, f5.6, 1/1250 sec. Hand held at a junk yard in Wendell Idaho. I processed it in LR with basic adjustments starting off. Then brushed in less clarity into the weeds at the bottom. A little lightening and darkening in some areas. Then it was taken into Color EFX Pro 4 where the detail extractor was used and finished off with an added border (because I like borders).

I really like the artistic feel of this image, and especially the shades of pale aqua tint on the subject. I like the way the weeds add to the feeling that the object has been there a very long time adding to the history of the image. But I would really like to know what the object(s) in the image are (or were). I also wonder why the part of the image that is sort of roundish just behind the weeds is softer focus than the parts surrounding it. For me, at this point, it is a beautiful abstract -- maybe that's enough for any image to be.   Posted: 03/08/2019 10:32:51

I keep studying this one. I figured out that there is a car door, and actually while the paint looks blurry, the handle, key hole, window frame, and trim are quite sharp. Now I just have to figure out what the object in front of the car door is.   Posted: 03/13/2019 17:04:20

My initial reaction was "What is it?" Upon reflection I figured it was a junk yard photo when I saw the door handle and key hole. My reaction was to focus in on the door and eliminate the other parts which to me are confusing. The thumbnail is an example of what I would do. The lighting and colors are really good. A little more contrast may help it to pop some more.   Posted: 03/24/2019 20:22:51

My initial reaction was "he photographed in a junk yard?..", which was immediately followed by "it's a cool picture!" I think the tones all work together and I keep going back to look at it (which makes it a success right there). Honestly, I wouldn't change a thing with this.   Posted: 03/31/2019 11:40:48
