About the Image(s)

The image was captured at the 9/11 Heroes Run in Baltimore on 9/30/18. I was a volunteer photographer for the event. The bracelets given to the runners were laying on a registration table. "If not me, then who..." is the motto of the Travis Manion Foundation, the primary beneficiary of event. Travis was a Marine Lt. who lost his life in Iraq rescuing his wounded Marines during a firefight. I wanted to isolate a bracelet on the table with a pile of bracelets in the background blurred to emphasize the bracelet and motto. I used my Nikon D7000 and Nikor 18-200 zoom lens. The image was shot at ISO 400, f8, 1/20, and a focal length of 95mm. The raw image was developed as a single image in Aurora HDR 2018 using one of the Landscape presets and minor tweaks to enhance the bracelet.

Nice shot. I was wondering if you got any other views of this such as one with a slightly higher angle to see "Travis Manion Foundation" words easier. My only thought is that I needed to read the description to understand the saying. I could Google it and probably find it, but it would be nice to associate the saying with the name of the Marine in the photo.   Posted: 10/16/2018 11:07:35

I'm really impressed with how well you represented the spirit of the 9/11 Heroes Run. As such it represents all our fallen heroes, and I like that you focused on the motto while showing just enough of the written words to convey how Manion embodied the intent to "serve to the point of sacrifice" of all those who daily put themselves at risk for the benefit of others.   Posted: 10/17/2018 20:26:46

This is a thoughtful image... you zeroed in on the bracelet very nicely . Good job.   Posted: 10/20/2018 16:13:25

A great subject with an important message. I agree with Marla that a higher angle would clarify the message. The lighting on the bracelet is spot on, but the brightness at the top of the image draws the eye.   Posted: 10/23/2018 15:21:39

Was this on a tri-pod? If not, then nice job hand-holding at the shutter speed. The composition is well done, especially how you singled out one bracelet amongst the masses. Similar to Marla's comment, I'm not sure what the story is without the description. I also think that more DoF to show more detail in the background pile would have helped. It's really hard to tell what that is.   Posted: 10/24/2018 18:05:55
