Iced Day Lily by Ruth Holt

July 2017 - Iced Day Lily

About the Image(s)

rey,
Nope, I still can not find the "Tools" on my PC. Thanks for trying to help me.
My entry this month is the last image I was able to work on in APS-CS6 before I did something to loose the tools.
"Iced Day Lilly" Taken June 2017. Opened and resized in APS-CS6. Adjustments used were vibrance, shadow/highlights, and sharpen. I poured a small amt. of water into a flat plastic dish. Took a daylily and put it in upside down on the ice, adding a little more water and continued the freezing process. Added more "layers" of water until flower completely covered in ice. Turned dish upside down to take out the iced flower; placed it outside in the sun on a table. While it melted, I took different images of the process.

Maybe someone else can help Ruth. The panel of tools on thr left In Photoshop on her PC disappeared. I have a Mac so what I suggested didn't work for her.   Posted: 07/09/2017 22:28:46

I don't have PS, so sorry, I can't help with the tools. Did you try googling for it?

Interesting photo, and a technique I'll put on my list of things to try. It certainly has initial interest as it got me looking around the photo for a while. I was mostly trying to figure out what I was looking at, before reading your description. Is there a reason you had to freeze in layers? I see a lot of bubbles that, to me, distract from the attention on the flower. The yellow is nice and vibrant, which I like. Admittedly, I had to google day-lily as I wasn't quite sure what flower I was looking at. That flower is very 3-D, and I'm not sure that lends itself well to being frozen and photographed in a flat matter. Maybe try this with something like a sunflower or daisy.   Posted: 07/12/2017 16:16:02

Howdy, yes, you start the with a little sheet of ice and make sure the flower sticks to the ice otherwise it may float around or the petals may fold back and not freeze where you want them. I have a sunflower in freezer; just waiting for time to play with it.   Posted: 07/18/2017 10:03:20

I give you credit for trying this. I have never heard of freezing a flower, but I kind of like what you are doing. If I were you, I'd keep trying it with other flowers just to see what happens.   Posted: 07/15/2017 21:21:46

I also had not heard of this technique but it produces interesting results. To me this is a nice abstract with the subject being the color. To help focus on the color I added a vignette. See thumbnail.

About tools in Photoshop, I have Photoshop CC on my PC. I did a quick check. I clicked on the view tab and then selected "screen mode". the menu give you three choices. Mine was set to "standard mode" and I had all of the tools. With the "full screen" choice the tools went away and I had to push "esc" to get them back. Do not know if this is the same in CS6.   Posted: 07/24/2017 11:19:04
