About the Image(s)

I am looking for interesting photo possibilities around me since I am not able to travel. Recently I visited Balboa Park in San Diego. My goal was to get up close and personal with things I might not normally notice or think to photograph. Being primarily a landscape photographer, I tend to see the big picture but often miss the details that make the big picture. I am training myself to notice the possibilities that exist if I narrow my focus. This image was taken in the little Artist's Village at Balboa Park.
The image was taken with a Nikon Z7, handheld. I used a Tamron F3.5-6.3 18-400mm zoom lens. Focal length was 32mm. ISO was 64. Exposure was 1/6 sec. at f/11.
Post processing included cropping, straightening, and tonal adjustments in LR. Additional processing included NIK filters (tonal contrast and detail extractor) to bring out the textures. I also did some color adjustments and saturation of the reds and yellows to make the image pop.

Laura I love how you made the colors and paint bush strokes pop in the photo. The details in the textures are wonderful. I also like how you cropped out the white arch on the left side of the photo and made what you did not crop the same color as the wall. Great job putting the focus on the colorful wall sign and door.   Posted: 12/01/2020 08:09:16

Thank you. This kind of photography is a new experiment for me. I'm learning as I go.   Posted: 12/01/2020 18:00:49

Laura, I love the prime colors, the textures, the sharp details - no shadows, no highlights - just a great presentation. Jim   Posted: 12/01/2020 14:03:22

Good seeing Laura!! I think your crop is right on, and the way you brought the red of the door to life is critical to making the image glow. The way you brightened the interior that we view through the glass was also very well done, and enhances the image. You did an excellent job of replacing the bright archway at lower left, but I wonder how the composition might look if you made it a darker tone of the wall color. You have done a good job Laura. Colors are stunning -details are great. You have nicely corrected the brighter sunlit area on the window. Very good crop.   Posted: 12/13/2020 04:10:57
