About the Image(s)

This image is taken near Longreach in Queensland after sunset. Shot on Nikon D800 ISO 100, 50mm 1.4 lens, F11 and shutter speed of 20 sec.

It was already getting quite dark, but I just wanted to grab a few more shots. The landscape around Longreach is pretty flat, so this 'mountain' was quite striking against the dry plains. I liked the curve of the track leading to the carpark so tried to emphasise it, and use its leading line. I've obviously increased the exposure somewhat and done some dodging and burning on the track. The cars at the base of the mountain have been removed as I felt they stood out too much. The crop removed the expanse of a very nothing sky.

Sue, The textures of the track, grasses and trees reveal a great deal. I hope to get to Australia to walk it and feel it. You did very well in the post-processing to get all the details of foreground and distance. Well done. Dr. Jim   Posted: 11/01/2019 16:38:44

Nice photo with subtle colors and leading lines.

A clouded sky would have improved the photo more.   Posted: 11/03/2019 19:49:48

Hi Sam, I personally think a cloudy sky would add too much to look at, given the detail in the track and the mountain. To me it feels dry and fits the outback desert feel. I think if it were cloudy I would not include the track.   Posted: 11/04/2019 00:34:31

Well done! I like the leading lines and the texture of the planets.   Posted: 11/04/2019 10:08:02

You might want to consider playing around with cropping this image drastically. I always think about what is necessary, what improves the image, what detracts from the image, etc.
I think you have the ingredients for a good image, but you might want to crop out all unnecessary things.   Posted: 11/08/2019 20:52:20
