About the Image(s)

Manual, f/16, Exposure time 6 sec. on Tripod, Photo editing software, On-1, Paintshop, This is a flower a Ornamental Kale from the Pike Place Market in Seattle Washington. 3, Oct. 2019. I wanted to do light painting so I put up a black background and shot the image using a flash light moving on the subject while using a long exposure, used Aperture Priority with a high f-Stop to get the most detail. I imported the image into On-1 then uploaded it to Paintshop and then cropped it and change light and the contrast, Painted the top right size to get rid of the red and bottom right to get rid of the little white petal then saved a copy as a JPG.

Donna, It's great to find something lovely in unexpected places. You have made this kale very appealing, good enough to eat - but it's still kale. I like the improvements from the original. I enjoy doing light painting too. One advantage to light painting is chance to change the direction "paint" over shadows, removing them. Try moving the light to the right and from below too, not just from above and from the left.

Jim, I did not even see that. Now after you told me how you move the light to do light painting; the dark shades stand out at me. I hate it but thanks to you I see it and know how to shoot the next time. That you!   Posted: 10/07/2019 11:32:41

Good choice of a subject. The simplicity of the subject makes it interesting.

The bluish background makes it bit unrealistic. I would recommend to turn it into black. Also it could be a good idea to reduce the shadows.   Posted: 10/08/2019 19:05:15

Nature can surprise us with beauty in unexpected places. I agree with previous comments about opening up the darkest shadows. You might also want to consider using either the texture or clarity slider in Light Room to create a bit more definition in the image.   Posted: 10/27/2019 13:38:49
