This is Pittsburgh PA at night. I am taking a community college class that provides opportunities for night shots (this seems to be some of the only time I get to shoot). You will see in my original - my camera now has a scratch or "string" that I have to edit out of all shots. I cropped the shot a bit aside from that. I am planning to have the camera cleaned - but in the meantime - it is a pain. The intent of the shot was to focus was on getting the building signs (UPMC) crisp, and the night exposure correct.

Kim, good to see you stepping up to new challenges. I like the image, great colors at night, good reflection from the boat.
It's a shame your sensor has so many artifacts. I hope it all cleans up. You should also clean up the many dust particles in the sky.
After cleaning - here's a tip: when removing and attaching a lens, always point the camera sensor down. Its hard to align and twist the lens on and off by feel, but learn to do it and be sure the lens is locked before taking your hand away.   Posted: 10/07/2018 09:02:21

Hey Kim! This is a beautiful image. The colors are outstanding. It is a little soft (out of focus), but that will probably be resolved when you have your camera cleaned. Another tip to add to Jim's is never change your lens with your camera on. Always turn it off before changing lenses. Night photography is one of my favorites, but it's not something I get to do often, so I enjoy seeing images from other members of our group.   Posted: 10/07/2018 20:24:24

Great night time image. Your composition is great with the boat on the intersection of third lines. Most of the dust/oil spots visible in the sky can easily be removed in either Light Room or Photoshop. To my eye, the image tilts slightly downward to the left. That can also be fixed easily in LR or PS. I would also try the NIK tonal clarity filter with no more than 10 on any slider. The colors looks slightly muddy to me. Because the boat is moving, it is out of focus. However, PS now has a shake reduction filter that could possibly eliminate the blur on the boat. There are video tutorials on how to use this filter. It is worth a try because it could greatly improve an already good image.   Posted: 10/31/2018 20:23:17
