Butterfly on flowers by Julia Parrish

May 2022 - Butterfly on flowers

About the Image(s)

I am so happy that the seasons have changed so the butterflies, dragonflies and birds are everywhere! This was a close up of a butterfly that I found interesting because of his eyes.

This is a great macro shot, I love the eyes!! I don't know why nature created eyes in an insect that look like they have pupils. The only change I might consider is to remove the out of focus flower in the background, to me it is a distraction.   Posted: 05/10/2022 18:44:33

Thank you. I agree with the purple flower in the background so I worked on it a little (and quickly) to remove it and it looks better.   Posted: 05/30/2022 11:25:30

Hi Julia,

Your image is breathtaking. I love the eye, the tips of the antennae, the sharpness and detail where it counts, and your attention to the background and not overdoing the vignette. It all makes for an outstanding image.   Posted: 05/12/2022 11:52:13

I love the butterfly. It is breathtaking. What a capture and those eyes. Well seen. I would like to see the flower toned down emphasizing the butterfly and would also remove the out of focus flower.   Posted: 05/21/2022 19:00:31

Thank you! I did remove the out of focus purple flower and its much better.   Posted: 05/30/2022 11:26:33

If you were entering this in a Nature Competition, there is little you can do to remove distractions, but in an Open competition, the field is wide open. That blurred flower could be eliminated, and even more detail extracted from the butterfly itself. A great capture, but a work in progress.   Posted: 05/30/2022 05:18:03

Agree that it needs some work. I did quickly remove the purple oof flower and that improved it a lot. Thanks!   Posted: 05/30/2022 11:27:57

Agree with the others that by removing the out-of-focus purple flower it creates a more pleasing image....the butterfly compliments the flower...   Posted: 05/31/2022 00:13:40
