October 2020 - I Win 2019

About the Image(s)

This was taken in 2019 at a local polo facility. Shot with shutter speed 1/1000 of a second. There was a lot of action there. Adjusted in PSCC.

Nice shot. You froze the action leaving shallow field in the back which enhances the figure in front. Good work.

Yikes, here they come! Excellent image, a definite wall hanger. Very sharp image in the foreground that falls off toward the background. This really draws your attention to the riders upfront. Curious how many photos you took that day. From my experience when taking photos of moving subjects, I will take a ton of photos. Nicely done.   Posted: 10/07/2020 08:04:48

thank you for your response. Yes, I took tons also. Liked about 6 of them. I entered this photo into my local camera club last week and the judge stated that he likes to see the horse's legs in the air for more action and the stick closer to the ball. Sooo I did not do well. But I still like the photo.   Posted: 10/08/2020 20:02:25

This is a successful shot. It is SO hard to get a good polo shot. Over the 10 years that I have been in these Digital Dialogues, I have seen a number of tries at polo shots--often the photographer takes 300 shots to get a single acceptable one. I think your judge is right, but their comment is for the ideal shot. You are right to like your shot.   Posted: 10/12/2020 13:44:04

Being a photo judge myself for many years I would still have given this image a top score...taking live action sports is one of the hardest things to someone said, take 300 and hope for at least one good one!!! Very well done, sharp action, and the four riders are all nicely separated...   Posted: 10/17/2020 15:04:34

Thank you Shirley. I appreciate knowing that the judge was perhaps too strict.   Posted: 10/17/2020 20:07:04

Great Polo shot. Our camera club did a polo shot a couple of years ago and I wound up being grateful that I wasn't shooting film as it would have cost me a fortune to develop the film and not get a decent shot.
Well done.   Posted: 10/18/2020 07:20:11

I really like this Photo. Agree with Shriley's comment as well as others. So close - still great. The front riders expression, and the dirt kicked up by horses etc all add to moment of capture.   Posted: 10/18/2020 09:55:01
