About the Image(s)

Marsh Fire

I was asked to photodocument a controlled burn for the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge. I had to keep a safe distance so I found a hill with a farm in a lower area to provide scale. Simple conversion to black and white with PS.

I hope I haven't submitted this before. My "questionable" records do not show this image being used while at DD23.

This could as well be anywhere in California or Oregon at this time of wild fires. Dramatic smoke billowing. I like the BW.

The black and white version is more dramatic, in this case, than the colored one...Yes, this could well be a scene of the many horrible wild fires here in California right now....the huge black smoke clouds really enhance the mood of the scene, while the barn and other building appear to be very safe...I will have to wait several more weeks until the fires are all out before driving up into the foothills to see the damage the fires did to so many ranch building....I have a favorite barn on one of the roads, that may be gone, or not..   Posted: 09/14/2020 13:51:40

I also like the black and white. Great capture. The untouched barn and the intense fire in the background. You can anticipate the effect the fire will soon have on the buildings. Well done.   Posted: 09/14/2020 14:17:34
