A very simple image of some mushrooms by Shirley Ward, FPSA, EPSA

August 2020 - A very simple image of some mushrooms

About the Image(s)

Since I worked for almost 14 years at our local food bank as a volunteer filling boxes, and then also giving out fresh veggies and fruits every week , I was able to select many unusual and interesting items for photos...(see group #20 http://psadigital.org/group20/image.php?iid=50458 for some carrots)

These beautiful mushrooms were to be given away one day, so I asked for some extras to take photos of....the manager of the food bank asked me for 8 large prints of some of my photographs of fruits and veggies, which he has mounted in his office....Not sure if this is one of them or not, as I was forced to quit several years ago due to back problems...Sure do miss the gang!!!

While I didn't give a lot of technical info, one can easily see that it is a very simple composition...I only know that this image was taken with a simple point and shoot camera...so F stops, etc. are not recorded..Either you like it or you don't.   Posted: 08/01/2020 18:21:27

I like it, Shirley. Unfortunately, whether it was the camera, or it looks like it was taken as a jpg, it falls short technically. But it's a beautiful simple composition, and I wanted to congratulate you on that.   Posted: 08/02/2020 14:08:06

Since I had to switch from my beloved Nikon D200 equipment to a point and shoot camera about 8 years ago, I don't have capability of all of the F stops, etc. that my SLR had....consequently what I get is what I get and any corrections to exposure, etc. must be made in my photo shop program...However, the Panasonic Lumix SZ40 is a fantastic automatic camera and I love it....   Posted: 08/02/2020 15:27:34

I feel there should be a little more space on top, however I love the rim light and the texture. Finally, with a point-and-shoot camera there is little you can do to enrich the impact. I like it.   Posted: 08/02/2020 20:28:47

Beautiful, well composed and I like to background. For me it has impact. As mentioned it would be nice to have a little more breathing room at the top   Posted: 08/03/2020 19:45:05

What you selected to render sharpness worked out well. The texture is very intriguing. Agree with the need for room at the top, but there could have been something that really distracted from the scene and had to be removed. Has an abstract appearance to it. Neat!   Posted: 08/04/2020 15:55:02

I don't remember why I cut the top so close to the rim, but, there must have been a reason, as I always try to give some breathing room....that is my only fault with this image...I might try cloning some more color at the top to give it a bit more space...   Posted: 08/04/2020 18:10:43
