Swan Road Sunset by Giuseppe Ciaccio

August 2020 - Swan Road Sunset

About the Image(s)

So, I was on my way to “Swan Falls Dam” in Melba, ID. My intention was to shoot the milky way, instead I got lost. So by sunset I ended up in this place along the Swan Road. I knew then that my mission was not the milky way, but the sunset. So I stopped and made lemonade out of lemons.
Looking at the settings I was surprised that my ISO was 800, I must have forgotten to reset. I shot with my Nikon D800, 1/80 sec at f/14. Focal length 70 mm. I tried to stay away from direct sunlight and loved the reflection of the sun on the sprinklers. I did some PP in LR.

Sometimes things have a way of turning out for the best, as is shown by a very colorful sunset against the buildings. Having the water sprinklers in the foreground gave it more interest. Only wish the clouds had been lower in the sky...   Posted: 08/01/2020 18:58:32

Thank you Shirley, and yes, the clouds could have been more cooperative, but I had to choose between the foreground and the clouds. I could have backed off from zooming, but I preferred not to include the road in the frame.

You definitely captured the "golden hour". The irrigation system draws you to the farm in the background. The image has a lot of depth to it, Irrigation system to the hills/mountains in the background. Very pleasing photo. Good job.   Posted: 08/04/2020 15:47:12
