Sky Full of Snow Geese at the MWR.... by Shirley Ward, FPSA, EPSA

March 2020 - Sky Full of Snow Geese at the MWR....

About the Image(s)

.

About 45 minutes north of my home in Madera, CA is the Merced Wildlife Refuge...Every year hundreds of Cranes, Ducks, Egrets along with hundreds of thousands of Canada and Snow Geese stay for several months before migrating further south for the winter...They are there from early Dec. to early March. This photo was taken in early February of this year...A fellow photographer and I were very lucky to catch hundreds of them swarming up into the sky leaving the water to other areas nearby.... This happens every day in the late afternoon, and then, they return at sunset.... It is an amazing thing to see them taking off....

This is a matter of being at the right place at the right time, and being ready. Wow! Nicely done. This would look great enlarged and hung on the wall.   Posted: 03/09/2020 20:57:43

I agree with Dave, you have to be there at the right moment. Although I believe your hands were cold, because you were there a while, waiting for the moment of glory.
Great job.

Actually we were having a very warm spell, with temps in the high 70's and low 80's last week....and, we were in a closed car with only the window open...So, I was nice and warm..We just had to wait until the geese decided to do a "fly up"....   Posted: 03/10/2020 14:34:42
