March 2019 - In motion

About the Image(s)

We had a club competition "Movement". I prepared this image but my collision with a tree and subsequent sojourn for 3 further weeks in a Swedish hospital, meant I never actually entered the competition.

On one of our annual summer holidays to Swede, we spent some time in Denmark and took this picture at a Bird Sanctuary. Don't quite know exactly what bird it is, and I don't think it is suitable for Nature.

Certainly was able to capture motion. Good shallow depth of field that enhances the sharpness of the bird. Some white dust spots that can be easily cleaned up. Possibly a Steller's sea eagle?   Posted: 03/05/2019 14:57:39

I like the composition that he is flying right out of the frame toward the viewer. crisp clear bird with blur background. love the translucent light in tail feathers.   Posted: 03/05/2019 17:47:49

Nice and sharp, showing the details of the bird. Was it about to pounce on something.? I am not into ornithology, so cannot tell you which species.   Posted: 03/07/2019 03:55:27

Great shot of the eagle. And I am pretty certain that Dave is correct, it is a Stellar Eagle (very large and the legs and tail are consistent). I use Cornell Ornithology Lab extensively and it suggests Stellar Eagle. Bird is clear and sharp. Hope you are feeling better!   Posted: 03/07/2019 10:00:31

Brian, hope you are recuperated by now. Good action shot, but it is not suitable for nature. It shows a small ring and wire on the right talon.   Posted: 03/09/2019 11:45:34

Skiing into a tree is not to be recommended but I am recovering. About to book skiing for next January so I'm not giving up although some folk have suggested that, at 77, I should take up something like stamp collecting!!!

As I said this was originally used for a competition on Movement/Motion and I know that it is probably not suitable for Nature - although the Nature definition is not entirely clear on the matter.   Posted: 03/09/2019 18:15:21

Hope you are fully recovered now. Great capture. Especially like the way the bird is flying towards me. Very sharp image. Well done.   Posted: 03/16/2019 20:28:22
