About the Image(s)

Photo was taken at my Grandson's college football game at Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee two weeks ago. Shutter speed 1/1000,f6.3, ISO 320.
Adjustments in PSCC, NIK software using detail extraction and Vignette filter. Then used Topaz Labs Denoise.

Nice stop action. Never tried to photograph football games. Things happen very fast and you were prepared. The shadow in the upper right hand corner adds interest, is it a referee closely watching the tackle, one hand on the penalty flag? Do you find the Topaz Denoise to be helpful?   Posted: 10/14/2018 11:28:28

It is the referee but I know nothing about the penalty flag from the shadow. Topaz Denoise was helpful but I think I should have used less of a percentage.   Posted: 10/14/2018 19:50:05

Guess I've watched too much NFL games where the refs are constantly throwing a penalty flag.   Posted: 10/15/2018 09:33:56

Sorry, but American football is lost on me. These look like creatures from a different planet, by their head masks. I gather that they spend most of the time grovelling on the ground.   Posted: 10/16/2018 10:53:52

Fast moving sports games are real challenge...You caught the action very well...I would like to see the scene a bit darker overall..and, you got great detail in the players.   Posted: 10/26/2018 12:43:00

Great action composition. players are off balance and seconds from crashing down. back lighting good and clear shadow creates triangle keeping viewer circling on action subject.
Question: what would the image look like without the topaz Denoise or just a lesser amount. a little grain or noise can look good in sports images. ISO 320 shouldn't create too much noise in full daylight. Nik Detail Extractor brings out contrast and detail. Denoise smooths the detail.
option: try tad darker, add Contrast and bring out shadows then use High light dodging to bring out some detail in uniforms.
these are just suggestions to try out.   Posted: 10/29/2018 20:44:23

Thanks for the input. Will try it. One question - is high light dodging same as dodging?   Posted: 10/30/2018 06:49:08

yes same... Lightroom brush menu uses term dodging (lighten) and Burn (darken)   Posted: 10/30/2018 14:49:13
