About the Image(s)

I was at a farmer’s market and spotted this interesting geometric shape on a wall. Nothing exciting, but I like the subtle colors and various shapes. Used Canon 7D at 70mm, ISO1600 (dim light), f/6.3 at 1/2500 seconds. Slight adjustments in Lightroom to bring out brightness.

I like this idea and the way you've brightened up the image. I think the white rods detract from the subject so I've removed them using the healing brush and some cloning.   Posted: 01/11/2021 13:52:33

I agree with Marti. The cleaner background sets of the pitchfork and rope.   Posted: 01/12/2021 08:38:25

Mike, I think you're on to something here. The way the rods are placed in the original remind me of viewing an old film with vertical scratches running along the image, if that's not pushing the analogy too far. With those removed, you have a composition that demonstrates the idea of less is more. The only other thing that might "add" to the picture is to give the pitch fork and strap a little more room to breath, as they are crowding the edges a bit much. Overall, though, I think this is a great and subtle image that captures a scene that almost everybody walking by would never notice. This will do well in a competition.   Posted: 01/14/2021 03:58:26

Marti's change helped to better focus on your subjects. I agree with Jerry that the pitch fork and rope need a bit more space to breathe. But it is a nice simple composition.   Posted: 01/14/2021 13:02:44

Peggy -- thanks for the spelling correction. Nobody will ever ask me to compile a spelling dictionary!   Posted: 01/14/2021 15:40:32

Yes, I agree that this is nice seeing, but not sure if it is a winning image. Marti's elimination of the slats sure helps, but there are just too many vertical lines and vertical line are generally considered to be static. The rope is a good breaker and leads the eye into the picture, but then it takes us (well me) out of the picture. I would consider this image as part of a story in a group of pictures.   Posted: 01/15/2021 09:09:00
