About the Image(s)

I really liked this prickly pear paddle with its buds, which are called tunas. But the composition was not really good, and it was kind of bland. So I cropped it pretty severely and then took it into Topaz to see what I could do. While playing with another image, I saw this mosaic look and so tried it on the prickly pear. It is a mosaic created with the AI Remix filter in Studio 2. I finished the image in Color Efex Pro, which just amplified the colors a little more. I consider this to be a "bright abstract".

I like what you did with this image, Peggy. As well as being a mosaic, it could also be a stained glass piece, however challenging that would be to make. I hadn't heard the name 'tuna' used in this regard -- I wonder what kind of sushi they would make? Have you attempted to brighten or saturate the colors? Over all, very clever and creative!   Posted: 12/08/2020 07:42:10

Tuna is the Spanish name for the fruit of this cactus. Not sure I know what it is in English. I first heard that term in a James Michener or Larry McMurtry book and thought it was pretty cool. The character in the book was surviving in the desert on these "tunas".
I agree that the image needs some brightening. Will try!   Posted: 12/09/2020 14:36:20

Mosaic Prickly Pears is kind of a conducive concept. Jerry's suggestion may give it more pop, but there is something disturbing to me about the composition. I tried various ways, but I could not come up with a better suggestion.

What is disturbing to you Joe? Is there a problem with this image that I'm overlooking?   Posted: 12/13/2020 15:17:49

The color of the Prickly Pears and the mosaic, make an excellent combination. It is just the arrangement of the Prickly Pears that is disturbing to me. To my eye, the one on the left does not appear to be part of the group and the one in the background is distracting. I tried eliminating them, flipping and flopping the image, but I am sorry, I could not come up with a better suggestion. But that is just me. If you are pleased with the arrangement, that is all that matters. It is a good concept and I hope you have the chance to create other studies.   Posted: 12/13/2020 17:03:26

I tried to imitate what you said but couldn't find the mosaic filter. I wanted to see what it would look like if the crop hadn't been made so much. I'd like to see it still lean and a little off to the right side instead of straight on.
Overall it's a neat abstract with good colors and interesting texture with the mosaic lines. Nice job.   Posted: 12/11/2020 18:26:33

Marti, it's in Studio 2, AI Remix, Stained Glass. Change the setting to High to get smaller pieces.   Posted: 12/13/2020 15:15:13

I'll have to try it again. I couldn't get it to look like yours.   Posted: 12/13/2020 20:35:06

A very creative way to adjust the original. I like the way you did this and think that the background of the images just right. But I also agree that it needs more color saturation, especially on the buds to make them really come alive. I'm afraid I would also agree that the cropping is a bit tight on the left side especially. Giving the plant a bit of room I think would have been beneficial.   Posted: 12/12/2020 16:48:00

What a fun project. I like the overall affects you were trying to achieve. I suggest not cropping it so much, bump up the colors of the leaves to make them pop and calm down the blue green around the leaves so they stand out.   Posted: 12/25/2020 15:10:52
