About the Image(s)

I came across this town wall that had recently been painted, and of course immediately
became a target for some brightly colored graffiti. It was at a time of day where the angle
of sunlight enhanced the texture of the stucco, so I thought I would experiment with the
arrangement of color and texture. I liked the image that included all three colors, but I
began to think that the green was a little to dominant, so I cropped into just the yellow
and red. Did I go too far?

I really like this! I agree with your decision to crop down to the red and yellow. That gives this a lot of pop. The photographer Art Wolfe does a lot of this type shots because they remind him of the artist Jackson Pollack (sp??). Anyway, I like abstract photo shots like this much more than abstract paintings. Great work here. It's like something I'd see in an art museum.   Posted: 11/05/2020 07:59:52

Actually I like it with all three colors. Something about the green makes it work better for me. I like the Original 2. I have downloaded this and tried some different crops, but could not come up with anything that I liked better than yours. Good eye to spot this.   Posted: 11/08/2020 16:59:24

I think I would agree that keeping all three colors in the image is a better option. Perhaps cropping the edges in very tight to the letters, but including all three colors enhances the image for me. Without doing that I am curious what the whole message of the graffiti was. The texture definitely adds a great dimension to this image.   Posted: 11/09/2020 10:26:05

I'm in agreement with Peggy and Al - I like the three colors. I tried putting the original on a black background. Your Original 2 has a more abstract look though. Nice capture.   Posted: 11/09/2020 11:31:27

I like the 3 colors and would crop this as a pano to capture all three to create an abstract look.

I attended the Photography as Art presentation by Art Wolfe that Mike mentions. Has it ever changed the way I look at patterns in life.

Another "good seeing" subject. As much as I agree with everyone on using the three colors, Jerry's abstract is something different and what makes it stand out for me is not only the two colors, but the texture on the wall. Graffiti such as this, offer all sorts of abstract possibilities, such as flipping the image all sorts of ways and finding all sorts of different compositions, pump up the colors, such as this.   Posted: 11/12/2020 14:03:45
