About the Image(s)

This was taken hand-held at 1/30, f3.5 with 50MM lens and an ISO of 3200. I made some adjustments in Lightroom and Photoshop to get more details out of the shadows.

Pretty steady hand there I would say. Too much of the sky? Perhaps crop in from the top closer to the roof of the house. This would always be difficult to balance the exposure of the building and the lights in the windows. The outlines of the string lights and the roof make for a pleasing image, but the left side of the house is cut off.   Posted: 10/11/2020 07:33:13

I knew that would be an issue and tried to see what I could do with it. It's actually cut off by the garage roof.   Posted: 10/11/2020 07:36:10

Nice Christmas card type of image. It may be better to leave the house dark since the lightening of it emphasized the shadow of the garage roof which cut out part of the brick area. For hand held though, this is pretty amazing!   Posted: 10/11/2020 13:27:20

Yes, for a 30th of a sec. this is very good. It very much reminds me of my house at Christmas. The entire picture is the composition, but my eye rests by the ran-deers and how one shadows onto the house. I do not mind the cut-off side of the house, but because of the darkness on the roof, the top peak appears to be just hanging there. Not sure what can be done about that. Note that it tilts a bit to the left.   Posted: 10/16/2020 11:23:45

Beautiful image. I would, however, not leave the whole house dark, but would try cloning or content aware filling out the very bright lights in the windows and let the decorations light the house.   Posted: 10/18/2020 07:04:46

It reminds me how soon Christmas will be here!!! The angles of the house and arrangements of the lights offers a nice warm feeling. The brightness of the lights and shadows on the garage and reindeer is where my eye goes first. I suggest darkening the real bright areas. Being able to see the left side of the garage and roof top would Also enhance the composition.   Posted: 10/20/2020 10:37:07
