About the Image(s)

While in Amana, IA, I saw this old ramp to a train station. It seemed to have some character. This was shot with my point and shoot Canon SX-50.

I opened the original in On1 Photo Raw 2020 and did the cropping. Then I used one of their Vivid Landscape presets and took it into Topaz BW Effects to finish the conversion.

You did an excellent job of transforming this into black and white. While I appreciate that you were trying to capture the character of the old ramp, in my opinion the image doesn't have a particularly strong subject. Might have helped if there were a particular object that would be a place to focus on.   Posted: 10/06/2019 15:19:17

This is an interesting old feature, and I think you have brought out the character well. Since the railings lead your eye into and through the picture - to the field and sky - I might have left it in color.   Posted: 10/11/2019 11:25:27

Nicely done in black and white. The conversion really made the opposing lines stand out and the weathering of the wood more prominent. One really gets the sense of age on the ramp and railing. Good composition.   Posted: 10/11/2019 15:13:13

Nice conversion to monochrome, the weathered texture of the wood comes through well. I just think that the composition would be improved if the center of the picture wasn't so empty. Perhaps an old piece of equipment, or an old flower pot, or maybe even a sleeping dog would provide for a point of interest, as Mike suggests. Also, maybe the picture could by leveled off; the left side could be brought up.   Posted: 10/11/2019 17:22:24
