About the Image(s)

The image of the old car is another one from the Georgia car show from several years ago.

The background consists of several layers using different brushes. I changed the colors and opacity of them as I worked. Then after moving the car onto the background, I made a copy and used the screen mode on one layer and the overlay mode on another and worked with the opacity on each.
I started out with a vertical, then 3/4 of the way through, I changed it to landscape. That wasted a week right there! This wound up being a 3 week endeavor! Lastly I used a frame brush to lightly frame the overall piece.

Please be kind!

So much more exciting than the original. How about "Breaking Through the Tsunami" or "They Make 'Em Tough?" I really like this image. It even has a patriotic appeal. Your work with the paint brushes is top of the line. Did you ever check out "Miss Fisher Mysteries" on PBS? They use that technique throughout her intro.
Anyway, in your car above, I wouldn't change a thing.   Posted: 07/11/2017 14:52:05

Thank you Joan. I rather like the Breaking Through title.   Posted: 07/11/2017 15:00:31

This is an exceptional example of how to use the Blend Modes. In addition, the brush work is both subtle and brash--a wonderful combination. I have been working on "Othello & Desdemona" on and off for months in various iterations, and I do not consider it time wasted as I learn from each iteration. Please don't consider your time spent on this beautiful automobile as time wasted. Consider it, as I do, as a learning experience, or maybe as learning experiences. Beautiful art takes time, and your time was well spent.   Posted: 07/12/2017 08:05:14

A definite improvement on the original. I don't understand all that you did with your brush work, but the result is very nice.   Posted: 07/28/2017 10:05:50

This looks like the auto may a Ford A-V8. The title of "Breakthrough" would do just fine. It really has visual impact ! The dim frame might be stronger if it were a zig-zag, with perhaps broken apart zones in it.   Posted: 07/28/2017 13:53:31

Nancy, occasionally I get a chance to look through other study groups and I am glad I came across your "Breakthrough". This is truly an exceptional work of art and I echo all that was said. Apart from your creative processing, you are also to be complimented on pre-visualizing this work of art. Congratulations! I say you have created something to be proud of.   Posted: 07/29/2017 18:34:27
