About the Image(s)

"Maui Wowie Falls" This image has been through a number of iterations. My original image was taken at the Yellowstone PSA Conference at Gibbon Falls. The preset that I applied was called Maui Wowie. The first thing I did was to experiment with presets that I purchased (very low price) for Lightroom. After that I did a lot of clean-up using mostly the clone stamp to remove some of the more unattractive distractions. The last thing that bothered me was the large dark spot on the right. So I made a selection of that area and then deleted it and used Content Aware:FilI which basically samples the area around the selection and fills it in with the surroundings.

Now for the more creative: "Maui Wowie Falls Creative" I brought the image back in Photoshop CC and decided to use Topaz Simplify IV. I looked through the different choices and selected Painting IV. I liked what it did to the rocks on the sides of the falls.

Sometimes when I use Topaz Simplify or Impression, it disappoints me by creating a "Topaz look." When this happens, I use a layer mask and "erase" part of the Topaz outcome. Sometimes it improves the look. Try using a layer mask to erase the Topaz river and replacing it with the actual river. The contrast might produce a less standard Topaz output.   Posted: 07/18/2017 10:08:22

This has become a painting because of your choice of filters. I admire that you did such a good job of of removing the debris that was around the falls in the original. Everyone is telling me how good Lightroom is these days, but, alas, I have never learned it, having grown up, so to speak using Photoshop.
As for your images, I like the speed of the water, but maybe could use a little more space in the foreground for the falls to empty.
Nicely done.   Posted: 07/24/2017 14:12:36

You have achieved a good looking painted effect. I would not alter it in any other way.   Posted: 07/28/2017 13:41:09
