Painted Rose. by Betty Billingham, FDPS, APSA, ARPS, AFIAP

June 2020 - Painted Rose.

About the Image(s)

I recently got a new programme similar to P/S called Photopad and am struggling to learn it. It is very similar and has all sorts of interesting touches. Here I first vignetted and then used their painting filter, which is adjustable. Rather liked it so hope it comes over OK. They have a series of ornamental frames but when I came to save the picture I lost the frame! As I am already late I decided to use a simple boarder for now. Will practice some more and hopefully produce something interesting again.

This round’s discussion is now closed!

I cant tell that a filter has been used here. Looks like a straight shot to me? I would crop right in on that flower thereby getting rid of the busy background. Not a fan of the brown border with rounded edges I'm afraid. Would rather a simple keyline.   Posted: 06/09/2020 11:58:40

Very nice image. Maybe tone down the brightness in the center of rose, but that's only a maybe. Good job.   Posted: 06/09/2020 13:26:42

In the past, I found myself struggling to submit a timely image. I always regretted the mistakes I made, so I've started working ahead. I am more relaxed and more satisfied with my images too.

In my mind I'll view this with a pink frame. I wouldn't crop it, but I'd blur the branch on the left and clone out the leaf on the bottom. The rose is beautiful, but doesn't appear painted to me. Perhaps the filter just increased contrast a bit to my eye.   Posted: 06/09/2020 14:12:33

I fail to see any creative effect on the rose, which is absolutely beautiful as it is....I agree that the frame doesn't fit the subject...and, get rid of the distracting leaf part at the bottom of the photo...beautiful color and sharp detail...Also, I would clone out the bright spot on the left side of the blossom...   Posted: 06/09/2020 17:35:25

This is a lovely photo of a rose but as there was no original with which to compare it I couldn't tell whether your new program had improved it in any way.   Posted: 06/11/2020 15:27:16
