About the Image(s)

A bit of a fun picture, I know it has its technical faults. It was on an island off the Northumberland coast that is a reserve for sea birds. The birds nest quite close to the boardwalks for visitors and delight in using that long sharp beak to peck at heads of visitors who get too close.

Did he sit down to see if he got the splat where he wanted it? This naturally monochrome bird with the red beak and legs is a dramatic addition to an otherwise uninteresting image. You could crop in closer, but the center of interest is so clear that I think a little extra space is a plus showing that it is an old, maybe even historic building. Well done.   Posted: 01/08/2021 16:29:19

I like it. The bird's colors are unique. The subject is sharp and shows well against the blurred background. Good story. Beautiful bird.   Posted: 01/09/2021 19:36:30

Hi John, I like this really draws you in. My only suggestions would be to crop in further on the bird & sign, brighten up the yellow of the sign, and see if you can reduce the shadows on the bird so as to get a better view of the eyes alternatively try to selectively sharpen the eyes..   Posted: 01/12/2021 14:41:03

I like that the bird is sharp and bright against a muted backdrop and atop a faded, spattered sign. In my mind everything in an image does not have to be punchy. I like the image, because the main subject is punchy and alive. It would be a plus if you could selectively sharpen the bird's eye as Norm suggested.   Posted: 01/16/2021 11:07:12
