About the Image(s)

I am fascinated with nests and collect them (when vacated) at the farm. I spotted this hornets’ nest last week. It serves as there base, but with some imagination it could be a mask (not like the Covid type). There is a mouth, nose, and at least one eye.
I adjusted the colors in Snap Seed and then cropped the image.

An interesting subject. The nest and surrounding needles are nice and sharp and I like the contrasting green color. the larger blown out sky on the right is distracting and I think cropping it away might improve the image. You will loose part of the nest, but i don't think it matters significantly to the story you are telling   Posted: 09/09/2020 04:45:46

Wasp nests are beautiful creations. The swirls and shapes I find most attractive. You have a good eye to spot the face, I think it looks clearer in the original, but well seen. You did the right thing with the crop, and lightening up the nest. I also like the fact you have a bit of wasp activity at the entrance.   Posted: 09/14/2020 08:06:16

You are braver than me. I don't think I'd be so close but you've captured a nice image. My eye is attracted directly to the entrance to the nest and the wasps which make the image interesting to me.   Posted: 09/17/2020 06:20:41

The swirls and curves make this hive beautiful. You captured it so well with its inhabitants guarding the entrance. I like your crop. The sky is a little distracting. Can you darken it in Snapseed? Is snapseed an app?   Posted: 09/17/2020 22:22:45

SnapSeed is mobile app. There is a way of toning down the highlights in the app, which I have to learn.   Posted: 09/19/2020 11:13:12

Harriet - This is an interesting subject. I would like a closer look. There is so much texture on the hive I'd like to be able to explore the ridges and "roads" with my eyes. Getting closer to a hornet's nest is rarely a great idea, but a zoom lens or a crop in would help out.   Posted: 09/23/2020 09:51:00
