Sunrise on the Long Island Sound by Norm Solomon

May 2020 - Sunrise on the Long Island Sound

About the Image(s)

Nikon D850 1/640 F16 ISO 1250 70-300@300mm

I took this image early one morning from my office—about 4 stories above the Sound and about 5 miles away…I was struck by the way the sky, morning mist/fog and tree `played’ off one another. I do regret not being able to get the entire tree into the image (my window blocked it)

I don't think the tree is an important part of the story and is not in the peak color of the sunrise, so I don't think not having the entire tree is a problem. I think the colors and the mist in the trees are great. The mist implies morning instead of sunset. You managed to get the sun to not look blown out. Well done.   Posted: 05/08/2020 08:04:44

Well worth an early rise. The colours and the mist create an atmosphere and the trees in silhouette make a good foreground. I agree with Stan about the tree on the right. A fabulous view from your window.   Posted: 05/15/2020 04:59:05

Again a very peaceful shot in our stressful time; the colors evoke early morning.   Posted: 05/20/2020 09:48:27

I don't know if I would get much work done looking at such a scene. I like the tree even if some part of it is missing. It kind of balances the picture. In my opinion the horizontal rays and the softness of the rising mist make a very tranquil picture.   Posted: 05/27/2020 19:00:58

Nice image Norm. Lovely hues of red and orange really attract me to the shot. The fog/mist is a real plus transitioning from land to water. Good eye Norm.   Posted: 05/31/2020 08:40:59

I hope the rest of your work day was as beautiful as the sunrise you captured that morning. I like the mist and how it is within the trees in the foreground. It's interesting to me that the sound is 5 miles away and you were able to see it this clearly at 300mm.   Posted: 05/31/2020 09:14:26
