Dresden Zwinger Pavillion by Stan Bormann, FPSA, MPSA

January 2018 - Dresden Zwinger Pavillion

About the Image(s)

Part of Zwinger Palace in Dresden used as Exhibition Gallery and Festival Arena, not Royal Residence. This particular building is now a restaurant. Shot with Panasonic GX8 with Lumix 12-60 at 33mm. ISO 400, f/16, 1/160 sec. Processed in Lightroom without any unusual adjustments other than the roof on the left end had very little contrast with the clouds and was darkened with a brush in Lightroom.

Stan, Great travel image! I especially like the bit of `drama' in the clouds...My only suggestion would have been to possibly wait until the fellow facing forward by the fountain either left or turned around--I find it a bit distracting...But these are things that are tough to deal with when traveling.   Posted: 01/09/2018 12:20:21

People in travel pictures can be good or bad, but a lot of pictures seem sterile without any people. I have been tempted to crop the two on the left but don't want to lose the patterns in the grass. I probably should crop the guy just walking in on the right. I have a general order of what to avoid in people. The worst is a tourist in white faced toward the camera in the foreground. Turn him around, dress him in dark clothes, and move him back. Better yet make him look local. Yes that guy isn't positioned great, but his clothing is dark and he isn't very prominent. If I had been on a tripod set up and watching people walk I might of gotten him out of there, but this is pretty typical of what ends up in many of my travel shots. If I wasn't interested in exhibiting this in PTD, there would be cleanup that I could do, and sometimes I have a PTD and a PID version.   Posted: 01/09/2018 12:38:27

Love the lighting on the foreground building! That, balanced against the spray of the fountain is what captures my interest--so I don't really notice the positioning of the people in the frame, except to be aware that there are visitors in the shot for some additional motion and interest. The building and the fountain are lovely!   Posted: 01/09/2018 17:16:45

A well composed travel picture, showing the interesting building and the visitors to it. I like the inclusion of the fountain as it adds balance. The work on the sky has toned down that area nicely.   Posted: 01/15/2018 10:27:38

My eye went straight to the fountain then the buildings with people secondary. It is clear they are mostly milling around but do a great job of providing scale to the image. I don't think any changes are necessary.   Posted: 01/25/2018 07:41:26
